It is quite rightly said that a good manoeuvre is purely a matter of practice - but what does "good" mean? That it goes quickly? That there is a lot of speed in the boat at the end? Or that a spinnaker does not collapse? Regatta and dinghy sailors, skippers of multihulls and monohulls, occasional charterers and experienced owners, traditional and sports yacht sailors have very different views on this. That is in the nature of things. And yet there is a small common denominator: a good manoeuvre is one that people and equipment survive unscathed.
In line with this maxim, we explain in the currentYACHT 15/2011, which is now available at newsagentsThe sequences show the most important manoeuvres step by step. The series of pictures from a bird's eye view are specially produced with a small crew and illustrate what is important when tacking and gybing. And not only under standard sails, but also under spinnaker and gennaker.
